Plot Summary:
It is 10 P.M., the night before Walnut Lakes' neighborhood supermarket closes its doors forever. The owners and night crew have a long shift ahead of them, longer then they think. After a cashier has a quarrel with a guy she broke up with around a year ago, things in the supermarket. The phone lines are cut, some of the night crew and management turn up missing. Turns out that there is one vile ass relentless killer with a purpose on the loose, but who could it be?
I own the HardGore release of Intruder that came out a few years back. It is not a bad print, but not spectacular, you know what I mean? It is grainy which I think actually helps it. And, it is presented with all of its gory glory! I had no idea just how nasty this puppy was going to get, because at first kill, it seemed to be pretty subtle (I am speaking of the Renee Estevez scene. Though, I must admit it was a nice stylistic shot). However, it picks up at the second kill, and then a bit more each and every time, and then just plain out goes the hell off in a few scenes, literally!
The scene with the band saw all the way through the face was outrageous! I loved it. Another favorite would have to be the hydraulic trash compressor crushing a guy’s head, until it explodes. These and about five other kill scenes here have to be some of my favorite work from the KNB boys. Simply put, disgusting!
While most of the acting is fairly bad, the dialogue is quite funny throughout the film. It is not quite as slapstick as the ED films, and if it had been, I may have actually been less impressed.
I loved the supermarket setting. I was worried at first. My initial thoughts were that there are so many things in a grocery store that could be used in the goriest of fashions, but I did not expect any of them to be used. Luckily, a lot of them were, to the fullest extent!
Gotta love seeing Ted Raimi's body hacked into several pieces being carried up a conveyor belt.
The movie did take a slight bit to get going. It did not bother me, though, because the whole build up with the obsessed boyfriend was interesting enough. And when the movie does get into slasher mode, it sure as hell does not let up.
