Movie Review: Vanishing on 7th Street (2010)

This was part “Twilight Zone”, part “Night of the Comet” and part “The Fog”. The story centers on a small group of survivors after a massive blackout (possibly worldwide) that takes nearly the entire human population with it. When the sun r...ises the following morning, a city of dread and emptiness is shined upon; where nothing more than clothes and small belongings litter the streets and buildings and abandoned vehicles. This was no ordinary blackout; nothing is working. Cell phones are inoperable, cars die out as soon as the key is turned, and even the batteries in flashlights have a considerably shorter life expectancy than normal. Darkness is the antagonist, and shadows are the perpetrators.

Vanishing on 7th Street definitely leaves a genuine feeling of hopelessness. It’s a more than effective post apocalyptic Sci-Fi chiller that doesn’t waste your time with a ludicrous explanation. It is straight to the point. It makes you deal with the situation as it is, and it does not pull any punches.

Starring Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo

Directed by Brad Anderson (Session 9, Transsiberian and The Machinist)

Recommended.
