Kicking a new ongoing installment on the blog today, simply titled "Jams". I have a blast doing those end of the year music posts, but I think it will be a lot cooler touching on new releases per week. Sometimes new releases might be talked about all in one post, or I may drag it out over the course of the week. Music is something I've always wanted to regularly talk about on the blog, as it is almost just as big of a thing for me as movies are. Hell, I spent the better half of my late teens all the way through to my mid twenties playing in bands. And I miss it to be quite honest. Anyway, moving on. Movie reviews will still be coming, though, I will probably be doing no more than two love letter reviews per month, if that. And there will still be collaborations as well as theme weeks. I originally wanted to kick off a new theme this month, but I got lazy as fuck last year, so that's not gonna happen.
So, without further ado...
Jams
Dropkick Murphys- Signed and Sealed in Blood
Eighth studio album from these guys. I rocked this shit 4 times yesterday. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a Dropkick album that much. I've never really disliked any of their stuff, but this is the first material in a while to where I just wanted to sit down and absorb it, lyrically and musically. They've never really changed up their sound, if you ask me. Aside from a different singer on the first full length, you can tell when you're hearing Dropkick Murphys. So, this is more of that, but I feel it's more catchy than the previous album. Just good ole Celtic punk shit that makes me want to get drunk as hell while listening to it. AOL Spinner is streaming the album right here, right now if you wanna check it. If you're a fan of the group, I highly recommend it. "Burn" and "Jimmy Collins' Wake" are two of my favorites.
Kinda wish this album had dropped before Christmas. Or at least wish I had known about the video.
Snuff
5-4-3-2-1... Perhaps?
I want to say I owned a Snuff album in high school, but I could be thinking of someone else. Anyway, this groups has been around since 86. 5-4-3-2-1... Perhaps is the first album since 2005, I believe, and it's pretty damn good. "There Goes the Waltzinblack" is a favorite jam. Really dig the melody of that song and the chorus kills. And just when that song has you feeling comfortable, the band gives you a big swift kick in the nuts with the next jam, "Mumbo Jumbo". Holy shit, fast as hell and pretty pissed sounding. Overall, a good album. AOL Spinner is always streaming this album, right here.
Philip H. Anselmo/Warbeast
War of the Gargantuas
Now onto my favorite release of the week. Good. Fucking. Grief. 4 songs. Two from Warbeast, two from Phil and the Illegals. Both groups compliment each other very well, and are totally crushing. The Anselmo project, though, phew. It's like he rips your genitals from your body, eats them and spits is back out at ya. The musicianship of both bands is just absolutely astounding. Solid, solid release, and can't wait to hear full lengths from both groups. Unfortunately, I can find no legit streams online, but you can jam this badboy on either MOG or Spotify. Enjoy. Listen for the song Conflict. First track, and it fucking jams.
