The Scooby Doo Show (1976-1978)
Season 1/Episode 5
The Headless Horseman of Halloween:
The gang along with Scooby Dum all go to Crane manor for a Halloween party. It's boss! While outside, Shaggy, Doo and Dum see the Headless Horseman riding on a white horse that has a messed up lookin' eyeball. Beth Crane's great, great grandfather was Ichabod Crane, so she thinks the horseman has come back to terrorize her family. Oh noes! It would definitely appear so, since he's all struttin' around demanding a head and shit. Chases happen, Scooby and Shaggy eat stuff, Shaggy looks crazy high, everybody has black dot eyeballs, a 70's stoner rock disco porno music hybrid is in full swing, Scooby Dum is hilariously bad, the animation is humorous, especially backgrounds.... it rules!
Not a whole lot to say here, but gah old Scooby Doo is a lot of fun. We all know how it's gonna end, but who cares? I'm not sure how the new stuff is, but there's definitely a lot of charm on these 70s episodes.
Season 3/Episode 4
To Switch a Witch:
In 1778, Melissa Wilcox was accused of witchery and burned at the stake in Salem, Massachusetts. In 1978, it looks like she's back, hangin' out at her gravestone, glowing, kinda lookin' like the Joker and being pretty awesome. Meanwhile, the gang is on their way to town to visit their friend, Arlene Wilcox. Well, Arlene is a descendant of Melissa and they look a whole hell of a lot alike, so the townsfolk wanna take her to the local witchcraft museum and dunk her underwater until they get a confession. Not if Scoob and the gang can help it! Shaggy dresses up for Halloween lookin' all Obi-Wan, Scooby's all lookin' like the witch that's terrorizing the cemetery, Shaggy and Scooby eat stuff again, Shaggy looks crazy high again, everybody STILL has black dot eyeballs, a 70's stoner rock disco porno music hybrid is STILL in full swing, Daphne looks hot, Velma looks hotter (true story), and Fred looks like “Whaaaa?” the whole time. Great episode.
The witch is actually kinda creepy lookin', and the atmosphere of this episode is great. Love the stuff going on at the witchcraft museum. Also like the cemetery caretaker that goes all Crazy Ralph midway through. The finale reveal is out of nowhere, kinda feels more so than usual. Thought it was awesome.
