I've decided to make this 4 parts. Now we're gonna jump into stuff my Momps, Bro and Sis grew me up on. This will be 2 parts. Stuff I remember hearing while Momps cleaned the house, took me to school (on 8-track, of course), played when Bros or Sis' friends were over, and so on. Again, some of these vinyls are not in the best shape. A lot of them were stuff I owned from when I was 4 years old. Some of them are hand-me-down stuff from my mother dating all the way back to the 1930s. Then, some of it belonged to my sister or one of her boyfriends. That will explain initials and names on the covers. Alrighty...
- Journey
My Mom loved the hell out of Journey. Can't even tell you how many times she saw these guys live. It wasn't hard for me to cling onto a band like this, either, and I still think they are pretty damn great. I get flooded with a ton of memories anytime I listen to them. Steve Perry's voice more than likely melted an uncountable amount of vaginas in the early 80s.
- The Rolling Stones
Always thought the 'Some Girls' packaging was brilliant, and the backside is ace.
'Now!' is my favorite shit, though. Just love that sound, much more than some of their later stuff. Here's a Chuck Berry cover.
- Led Zeppelin
Some of these aren't in the best of shape, but they are fucking epic albums. Without bands like Zep and Yes and ELP, I don't think groups like Mars Volta would exist.
Such a fucking JAM.
- Elvis Presley
My Mom's favorite. Kinda hard for me to listen to ever since she passed on, but I can still jam on some of it. This may not look like a lot. I can assure you that there is much more in here -
Yeah I know. It's criminal that these aren't in slip covers. Sadly this is how they were when I got them. And I actually did just order some slip covers from Amazon to display them properly.
- Fleetwood Mac
I love the hell out of some Fleetwood, as well as Stevie Nicks solo. I think she has one of the most beautiful fucking voices in music, I mean it. It sounds real. Don't agree? That's okay, I'm not listening. :)
Gotta throw this in, too. Corgan did a fucking bang up job. From Smashing Pumpkins' Pisces Iscariot.
- Eric Clapton
I think Clapton is easily one of the greatest guitarists to ever grace my ears. Watching him back in the day play that live set on Mtv Unplugged was amazing. Looks like he does that shit effortlessly and it sounds perfect.
Gotta throw this in too because the instrumental bit in this song is straight fucking beautiful. Forever reminds me of Goodfellas.
- ZZ Top
Maybe they are cheesy but I don't give a shit. They had bad ass beards and spun their guitars and with videos like the one below it was impossible for me to hate them.
- Aerosmith
I love old Aerosmith. I can't get into any of that stupid pop shit after Pump. Actually, I don't even like Pump in its entirety, but Janie's Got a Gun is fucking bad ass. Toys in the Attic has always been my favorite. This is a remixed version of the original 'Sweet Emotion' recording. The video is awesome.
- Fastway
After catching Trick or Treat on VHS I needed to know who the fuck Fastway was. I remember Momps taking me out all over to find that shit. I ended up getting the cassette from Columbia House. Then, one day I was looking through my Sister's records and sumbitch if she didn't have this. It's no Trick or Treat soundtrack but it's got some jams. I wonder if Flogging Molly ever covers any of this shit live?
- Judas Priest
Been listening to this shit a lot lately. Just been in an old metal mood.
- Dire Straits
If you didn't like 'Money For Nothing' when you were a kid in the 80s, then you pretty much fucking sucked. I actually Liked 'Walk of Life' more, but I kept that shit to myself in school. However, Money For Nothing is a WAY better video.
- Quiet Riot, Nazareth & Motley Crue
Not sure why I jumbled these three together, but I did. I think it's because at the age I heard these (between 5 and 7) I didn't think it got any more metal, lol. Here's some jams.
Michael Berryman!
Part 3 to come later!
