Random Badass Sci-Fi Music Themes: Part 1

Music is honestly one of my favorite ingredients in a movie. I'm guilty of enjoying a shitty movie as long as there's a good score in the background. Sometimes a good musical composition can turn a pile of shit into cotton candy. Anyway...

I have a hard time making top tens, twenties or what the shit ever. So, here's just 10 random Sci-Fi themes in no order that I highly enjoy...

  • Total Recall - Jerry Goldsmith

How fucking badass does this song make you feel? The opening has that whole Conan The Barbarian vibe, so that may be why it makes me feel like I'm ready to chop someone in fucking half, but then it travels straight into Sci-Fi epicness. Thanks Mr. Goldsmith. This one is highly memorable. RIP

  • The X-Files - Mark Snow

This little tune had me hooked on the show before I even fully knew what the hell it was about. Anytime I watch the skies at night (not necessarily  looking for aliens) this song comes to mind. It rules.

  • The Terminator - Brad Fiedel

This shit still gives me goosebumps. I like the more epic sounding Judgement Day theme, but this one has a coldness about it that cannot be matched. Also love the more kinder, gentler version that plays during the Hamilton/Biehn sex scene. Steamy!

  • Escape From New York - John Carpenter

One of Carp's best, I'd say. I listen to this at home regularly. Carp and Alan Howarth made some great jams together. This and the opening to Halloween III are possibly the two that I like the most.

  • Star Wars - John Williams

Christ on a crutch this shit bursts out of nowhere! John Williams jumps out loud as fuck with this theme and kicks you in the face and screams "Listen to this, bitch!" Awesome.

  • Robocop - Basil Poledouris

Not an opening title jam, but the main theme. Shit fucking kills! Makes me wanna get blown to fucking bits only so some whack company can bring me back as an ultimate badass. That way, I can drive around town looking for criminals while this song is blasting out of my stereo.

  • Star Trek: TOS - Alexander Courage

I had a difficult time choosing between this and The Next Generation, but that fucking blasty style punk beat on this one wins me over. That and it sounds more dreamy.

  • Back to the Future - Alan Silvestri

If this song doesn't make you feel like you can accomplish some insanely gigantic fucking task at a last possible second, then nothing will. Shit owns.

  • E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial - John Williams

When I was a kid I had an E.T. big wheel. It had the little dude on the front handles in a basket with a blanket over his head. It had a side brake so you felt badass slide stopping. I used to ride that fucker off of a wood ramp my brother built for biking, and I felt like I was passing by the moon. This song totally takes me back to that.

  • The Omega Man - Ron Granier

I may not love this movie as much as Last Man on Earth, but that doesn't mean that I don't love the hell out of it. I remember when my Mom first rented it to show me, I was freakin' blown away. Ron Granier's score is absolutely fantastic, too. Every song. But this one is a favorite.

More to come!
