Random Badass Sci-Fi Music Themes: Part 2

I started this late last night because I couldn't sleep. Eventually I got tired and passed the hell out, but I woke up still inspired from listening to nothing but movie scores all of freaking yesterday. So, here's Part 2 of Random Badass Sci-Fi Music Themes!

  • Sunshine - John Murphy

Adagio In D Minor. This song is absolutely awesome. Placed in the best possible scene of the movie.

  • Pi - Clint Mansell

Pi r^2. Good gravy this tune fucking kills. Mansell has went on to do a lot of great stuff since this. Every Aronofsky movie. Also Moon, Mass Effect 3, and is the founder of the "Band on a Can" festival. The whole Pi soundtrack is awesome, and listening to this bonkers song has made me realize that I need to re-visit the film.

  • Superman II - Ken Thorne

Thorne taking over for John Williams and adapting what was already epic, thus making it more epic. I got fucking goose bumps right now. I think I even have a tear in my eye. Holy shit, break time. brb...

Ten minutes later...

  • WALL-E - Thomas Newman

The entire soundtrack is amazing. But this Foreign Contaminant track is nuts. All kinds of stuff going on. It sounds so busy. Fits perfectly.

  • Moon - Clint Mansell

Damn. Mansell bringing it again. Welcome to the Lunar Industries. The song is so sick when it kicks in. Pants have been shat.

  • Starship Troopers - Basil Poledouris

Poledouris/Verhoeven team up again. Truly some "Go out and conquer wolrds!" sounding shit with a "Take no prisoners!" attitude. Or... just "Fuck Bugs!"

  • The Abyss - Alan Silvestri

Completely gorgeous theme. About all I have to say about this one!

  • The Thing - Ennio Morricone

The simplicity of this theme is what makes it so awesome. The way it intros into the film you just know shit is wrong. The final half of the song is creepy as hell.

  • Predator - Alan Silvestri

Damn, Silvestri straight taking over this blog. Can't help it, dude created some great film scores. I love the quick precision stops in this tune, like mathrock or some shit. It's awesome when it plays over the end credits where it shows pics of the cast. Great beginning tune, too.

  • Jurassic Park - John Williams

This long version is goddamn astounding. There's no possible way to describe the beginning segment without sounding like a douche. It's beautiful. Then about 4 1/2 minutes in straight epicness ensues. When I go on the JP ride at Universal and this song kicks in when floating around looking at fake ass dinosaurs that haven't been repaired in years, I feel amazing and fucking corny at the same time. It's not a bad ride, but it's not amazing, either. The scenery is what's cool, despite the hokey look to most of it. Anyway, I'm rambling. Long story short; this song is fucking awesome.

More to come!
